Tom Higgins was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease) in the spring of 2011. Since that time he has continued to live his life to the fullest. Traveling to Vancouver with his son to see their favourite team the Boston Bruins win the Stanley Cup and meeting Don Cherry during to 2nd intermission, to Toronto to see his favourite baseball team the Yankees, to Halifax for a coffee with idol Bobby Orr. Despite his rapid deterioration, he has continued to have a positive outlook on life being a great father and grandfather. He has even decided to participate in a drug trial in Montreal with the hope that he can contribute to the development of drugs that will slow the progression of ALS for future generations. This study requires that he fly to Montreal at least once a month for testing. Despite his rapid deterioration Tom still fights on, traveling to Montreal with his Daughter Sonya and homecare workers. Most of the costs to travel to Montreal fall on his shoulders. Therefore, Scott Mosher, who was coached by Tom for many years, has decided to dedicate his Annual Police Officers VS. Teachers Hockey Fundraiser to Tom and his fight against ALS. Many of the players participating in the game will be people who were coached by Tom for years as kids. Scott thought it was the least he could after everything Tom gave to the hockey community of Corner Brook and vicinity. The game will take place 6:30pm on Monday, Feb. 20th at the Pepsi Center. See you there.
