Corner Brook Minor Hockey is pleased to announce a new partnership with Respect in Sport, Canada’s only online certification program dedicated to protecting our youth and enhancing an organization's mandate for a safe, fun and respectful environment.
The one-hour online course focuses on a variety of topics including player development, and interaction with the children, coaches and other parents. It will give parents a tool to evaluate their own behaviour and recognize their natural influence. “It sets a standard of appropriate rules for everyone. And, it empowers good parents to be better,” said Wayne McNeil, cofounder of Respect in Sport.
The CBMHA’s number one priority is providing a safe and fun environment for our players. Our partnership with Respect in Sport will help us promote our values by educating and supporting all levels of involvement, parents included.
Parents are encouraged to learn more about the Parent Education Program. We expect the program will be warmly embraced. Every parent will benefit from the course material. We all want our children to be successful, hardworking and respectful - on and off the ice. The best way we can support our kids is to set the tone ourselves by cheering, coaching and encouraging with respect.
Certification
RIS is an on-line training course for parents. It is designed as a tool to assist parents in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment and bullying in sport. The on-line course curriculum is divided into modules hours to complete and includes audio/visual presentations, quizzes and printable handouts. Another beneficial feature of the program is that it does not need to be done all at once; it can be completed at your leisure.
Time Commitment – The course will take an estimated 1 hour.
Availability / Access – The course is accessible over the internet, therefore, the delegates can dictate when and where they take the course. They can also complete the course at their own speed.
Flexibility – Delegates can access the Respect in Sport on-line course at any time (by way of user name and password) and are therefore able to complete one module at a time.
E-Learning Platform – This is an introduction to the capabilities of training delegates with online tools and resources. The course contains many handouts which remain accessible after the course is complete. If a paper copy of any of the documents or the accreditation certificate is required it can be printed from the website.
Not Sport Specific – Respect in Sport is not specific to any sport. However the learning principals within are common to anyone . The need to educate our parents is of significant importance, however this allows for some reduction in the duplication of information.
